Amber, Jack Daniels & Autumn

Autumn leaves, Jack Daniels and Amber. What do these have in common you ask? Well a lot. For one a small glass of Jack Daniels on a cold autumnal evening fills you with warmth and as it slithers down your throat it soothes and relaxes completely. The bible does say: He makes… wine that gladdens the heart of man. Psalm 104:14-15. A little wine is good for the soul as long as you don’t overdo it. That same bible does say: Wine is a mocker and beer a brawler. Whoever is led astray by them is not wise. Proverbs 20:1

But I’m most fascinated by the colours of these three things. The warmth, elegance and timelessness of the amber colour is reflected in all of these three items and I find this quite interesting.

The Amber gemstone itself is fossilised tree sap, formed inside large trees at least 40 to 45 million years ago. It dripped from wounds and cuts in the bark, as well as forming as pockets inside the trunk itself. The trees used the resin as an antibiotic and like an effective ‘sticky plaster’ for their wounds.

Amber continues to fascinate experts. It is living nature and along with its beautiful appearance, its healing properties and its mystery and magic, Amber is surely one of the most fascinating unique gemstones created by nature.
